This course is aimed at Clinical Coders and Case Managers; those seeking a career in Clinical Coding or Case Management.

Course Content

Three assignments will be completed after each block, in total nine assignments need to be completed.

  • Diseases of the Circulatory, Respiratory and Digestive Systems
  • Diseases of the Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue
  • Diseases of the Musculoskeletal and Genito-urinary System
  • Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Puerperium
  • Congenital and Chromosomal disorders
  • Conditions originating in the Perinatal Period
  • Signs, symptoms and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings
  • Factors influencing health status and contact with health services
  • The coding of injuries, poisoning and other consequences of external causes
  • The external cause of injury coding rules
  • The use of the South African Morbidity Coding Standards

Registration

Entry requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Maths / Maths Literacy
  • Basic Anatomy
  • Advanced Anatomy (if you are not a qualified medical professional (doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, etc)
  • Basic ICD-10
  • Intermediate ICD-10
