About the course

Child protection is a cornerstone of safeguarding the health, dignity, and future of children. This module provides a comprehensive overview of child abuse, exploring its many forms and the critical responsibility shared by healthcare workers and other role players in identifying, managing, and preventing abuse.

Learning objectives

  • Understanding child abuse: The different types of abuse — physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect — and how they manifest.
  • Roles and responsibilities: How healthcare workers, social services, educators, and the justice system collaborate in protecting children.
  • Management strategies: Practical approaches to intervention, reporting, and supporting affected children and families.
  • Awareness and vigilance: Building the skills to recognize signs of abuse and respond appropriately.

Course cost

The full cost of the course is R200 with discounts available for Western Cape Department of Health employees and UCT Health Science students.
