About the course
The UCT Data Skills Accelerator equips students with the job-ready technical skills and strategic business acumen they need to pursue data-focused roles or responsibilities. It covers content from three high-impact UCT short courses – Data Analysis; Business Analytics; and Data Science with Python – and brings it together into one cohesive learning pathway. Over the course of 27 weeks, you’ll progress from data fundamentals to advanced application, and build your fluency with tools like Excel, SQL, Tableau, and Python.
Our integrated learning experience prioritises consistency, structure, and flexibility: You’ll learn alongside the same cohort and receive feedback and guidance from the same tutor for the entire course. You’ll also complete a portfolio-ready capstone project and earn a verified certificate of completion from UCT.
Course content
This programme is designed for early- to mid-career professionals – including specialists, managers, and consultants – who want to pivot into data-focused roles or expand their existing responsibilities by using data to make informed business decisions. It is ideal for students seeking a comprehensive, career-aligned, and practical data skillset.
This programme comprises three individual courses that form an integrated learning journey. The programme includes:
- Data Analysis: Learn the fundamentals of data science, and the broader potential of analytics to address business needs in finance, sales, marketing, and more. (8 weeks)
- Business Analytics: Discover how to apply data analysis techniques to derive meaningful insights from number sets and drive business growth. (8 weeks)
- Data Science with Python: Learn which Python libraries are used in various industries, and deploy them to solve day-to-day business challenges. (8 weeks)
