About the course

Academic English is designed for students preparing for university study or looking to strengthen their academic communication skills. The course develops academic reading, writing, listening and speaking, with a focus on the language and skills needed for lectures, assignments, presentations and academic study. Students also develop critical thinking, argumentation and effective academic writing skills.

Course content

The course focuses on academic reading and writing, lecture comprehension, presentations, critical thinking, argumentation and appropriate referencing. It also includes NBT preparation and optional support for students applying to UCT.

This course is offered by UCT English Language Centre (ELC). Enrol and pay directly with the course provider. Once the booking is submitted, ELC will provide the information needed to confirm enrolment.
