About the course
This module will provide a comprehensive introduction to research ethics, covering key principles, benchmarks, and historical ethical violations. You will learn about various role players, review informative case studies, and receive practical tips to avoid 'ethics dumping.' The module will also delve into the levels of vulnerability associated with research participants, risk assessments, and relevant international, and local resources. By the end of this module, you will have a thorough understanding of the research ethics landscape and the essential considerations for conducting responsible and ethical research. This module is designed to be purposefully broad, to be relevant to social sciences and health sciences researchers.
Course Content
This is an introductory course and covers:
- What is research ethics, including definitions and a brief background
- Benchmarks for ethical research as well as considerations of risks and vulnerability
- Resources and guidance documents to support responsible research practice
The course contains a formative knowledge check to enable you to gauge you progress and understanding. Additionally, there is a summative final assessment, which will trigger an email confirming completion of the course and competence.
